The Hohokum Art Spectacular Opening Night - Coverage / Gallery / Giveaway!

On a warm August night in Los Angeles iam8bit and Sony Santa Monica Studios opened their newest gallery. Featuring art from the new PlayStation game Hohokum created by developer Honeyslug and artist Richard Hogg.

Hohokum is a game I have been following for what seems like ages now. From that first post on the PlayStation Blog last year with those few screenshots I have been enamored with the title. Every few months we would get a new trailer or some screenshots of a new area but the wait is nearly over now. Hohokum launches as a crossbuy title for PS4, PS3 and PSVita this week on Tuesday August 12.

The gallery itself was absolutely lovely. Pieces by Richard Hogg were adorned on the walls along with other Hohokum themed decorations. Demo units provided by Sony were set up in the lobby as well as the lounge in the back. All throughout the gallery Hohokum's enchanting soundtrack was playing and I must say thanks to the complimentary beverages it did make me want to breakout into dance just a bit!

Each of the pieces in the gallery had fifty prints up for sale. Here at The Bit Beacon we grabbed up six of them, I can't wait to get mine framed when they ship later in October. Also for sale was The Hohokum Almanac which were pre-signed by artist Richard Hogg. The almanac is a special tome as it is more than just your average art book. It contains all kinds of information about the world of Hohokum, even a ballad and more!

The event had a great turnout but wasn't so crowded that people were able to meet and mingle. The chill music and atmosphere provided for a most pleasant evening. It is really a shame the artist couldn't be there for the opening and that would have to be my only disappointment. If you are in the Los Angeles area or willing to make the trip down I would greatly recommend heading over to iam8bit before the gallery ends on August 17. If you do go be sure to purchase a print if you are so inclined as I am sure they will go fast!

Hohokum launches this Tuesday 8/12 only on PlayStation, you can preorder the game here. The soundtrack is available on vinyl and digital download later this October and can be preordered here.
