PlayStation gamescom Press Conference 2012 Coverage

Sony reigns supreme in Europe so they are the only of 'the big three' to have a conference at gamescom 2012 in Cologne, Germany . Check out what they brought to the table this year inside the article!
The show kicked off with a new trailer for Little Big Planet Vita which focused on the games single player campaign. Showed off all the usual touch screen capabilities though it also featured something I hadn't seen before which is taking pictures with the rear camera and placing these pictures in the game.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale also showed off a new trailer revealing new playable characters Dante from Devil May Cry, Spike from Ape Escape, Sackboy from Little Big Planet and Rachet and Clank. The big news is the new Cross Buy promotion, in a nutshell buy it on your PS3 and get it for free on your Vita. Other titles taking advantage of this promotion include Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Rachet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation was the next title showed off with a brand new trailer. The footage showed off the games 'Touch to Kill' combat mode, wrestling with alligators, boat rowing via the rear touch panel on the vita and underwater swimming in a cavern.

Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified was then discussed for the vita. The game takes place between the original Black Ops and the soon to be released Black Ops 2. The game also features several a 4v4 online multiplayer mode. A trailer was also shown off at the end of the conference featuring your usual CoD gameplay. Also announced was a special bundle which includes a PSVita with a custom rear touch panel, the game and a carrying pouch. Check out the trailer below.

PSOne titles will finally be available to play on your PSVita starting August 28th.

A new IP from Media Molecule was debuted today. It is titled Tearaway for the PSVita. The main character is named Iota and he comes from a world made entirely out of paper. His mission is to make it out of his world and into ours to deliver a special message to the player. Combat showed Iota picking up an enemy and throwing him through a door that then collapsed taking the enemy with it. The coolest bit came when there were so many enemies on screen that the player had to stick his fingers through the back of the PSVita using the rear touch panel to destroy enemies and move objects around the game world. The frame-rate seemed a little sluggish in the demo but not really bad, was impressive the amount of objects and detail the game has on the PSVita.

Another surprise title was the new Killzone game subtitled Mercenary. Only a short trailer with some live action elements was showed off. From what I saw the game does look really gorgeous and leagues ahead of other shooter titles on the PSVita such as Resistance: Burning Skies. More information was promised on this game in the coming months.

PlayStation Mobile was announced today. Sort of confused as to what this is supposed to be. Appears to be a service for your PlayStation certified Android Devices with a specially curated storefront for your phone and PSVita.

They spoke briefly on Assassin's Creed III and shared that the PS3 version contains four exclusive missions featuring at least an hours worth of content only on PS3.

Little Big Planet 2 is also getting some new DLC this year. This DLC enables crossplay with your PSVita and PS3, essentially giving you a dual-screen experience. The vita is used as the controller and the shows hidden traps and allows you to interact with your game on the television screen.

More plans for PlayStation Plus this year. Red Dead Redemption is Septembers free game. It was also announced that PlayStation plus is coming to PSVita later this year.

The focused then switched to Wonderbook. A few trailers played showing J.K. Rowling's Book of Spells, Diggs Nightcrawler from Moonbot Studios, Walking With Dinosaurs from BBC Earth and a tease that Disney would also be bringing their content to the product.

Finally some new PS3 titles. The first of which was 'Until Dawn'. The game is heavily inspired by classic horror movie motif of a bunch of young attractive adults going to a cabin in the woods and shacking up. At first I was like this looks dumb, but my opinion quickly changed. The game actually looks scary and looks as though you can change the outcome of the game by getting the characters to survive. It was revealed that you will play as all seven of the games cast with the goal of staying alive...Until Dawn. Clever.

Next was a new PSN title from Japan Studio titled 'Rain'. You play as an invisible boy whose figure can only be seen in the rain. The gameplay was not entirely clear but it appears to be a light adventure/puzzle solving game with some platforming elements. The trailer ends with 'A story of an invisible world revealed by the rain' and showed that the boy is not the only invisible person. This was probably my favorite game they showed off at the conference.

And finally we have 'Puppeteer' also from Japan Studio. Has the cutesy charm of Little Big Planet but in a different way. All of the games characters look like wood carvings. You appear to be playing as a wooden boy in search of a soul and a witch or fairy perhaps sends you on a quest. Your weapon being a pair of scissors. The game is a 2D sidescroller with lots of combat and platforming to be had. This is one to keep an eye on for sure.

And that is a wrap on the PlayStation gamescom Press Conference for 2012!
